High, Hiking, Calories, many, You're, Burn, elevation

Question by Cunninlynguist: How many calories does hiking burn when you're at a high elevation?

Mountain hiking between 12,000 and 14,000 ft for approximately 6 miles with about 1,000 feet of elevation gain. I just moved out to Colorado from MN and I've been hiking this every day for a week and am already starting to get in really good shape. I just would like to know roughly how many calories I'm burning when I do this.

Hi,

It's going to be hard to say since I do not know your age, gender, height, and most importantly: weight.

So if roughly speaking, 6 miles at 1000 feet for 12,000/14,000 is going to be approximately 800-900 calories.

The more you weight, the more its going to be. The number I gave you is by personal experience and approximately the average.

Boy you must be a BEAST to do this every day, keep up with the good work
